Konkona Sen has entered the big league with the Karan Johar upcoming film ‘Wake up Sid’ where she plays the leading lady.


Konkana has already acted in a couple of Yash Raj movies but it was just a second fiddle to Rani Mukherjee and Madhuri Dixit. But now she’s gone one step ahead and has bagged the lead role in a mainstream commercial film.


The initial reports of the film are very good and Konkona is encouraged by the fact that whoever has seen the promos is talking about her great chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor. Konkona is now waiting for the audience’s feedback after the film releases.

Katrina looses out to Priyanka for Ranbir’s lead lady

Ranbir Kapoor has already worked with Bollywood hotties like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone. And now the handsome hunk is all set to share screen with Beautiful Priyanka Chopra for his upcoming venture. Ranbir has been roped in for a film by Siddharth Anand, wherein he would be pairing opposite Priyanka.

It was none other than his ‘supposed’ present flame Katrina Kaif who was previously signed on for the film. But Katrina is been replaced by Priyanka Chopra for the lead role. The film, to be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is saidto be a romantic comedy.

Ranbir-Farhan in place of Ajay-Saif in Aparna Sen’s ‘Gulel’

Ranbir Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar will be teaming up for their next venture. Both the actors have been roped in for Aparna Sen’s Hindi directorial debut- Gulel.

The film was to go on floors earlier with Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan. Both the actors backed out of the project, and Ranbir and Farhan have been taken on board in place.

After Ranbir was confirmed for ‘Gulel’, Aparna was of the perception that she needed a more jolie actor to take Saif’s place and she chose thought of Farhan. Farhan was initially not keen on doing the film but finally arpana was able to convince her.

Ranbir all set to take up politics

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to take up politics in Prakash Jha’s next- ‘Rajniti’. Ranbir’s character in the flick is based on the life of one of the great political leader- Rajiv Gandhi. The actor plays a young NRI in the film, who returns to India to join politics.

According to Prakash Jha, Ranbir’s character can be described as someone who “defines democracy in today’s world”. Ranbir is very excited about his looks and dialogues in the film. Ranbir won’t play the typical Indian Neta in the usual khadi kurta-pyjama dress code. The actor will be very trendily dressed. He plays a young man of today.

The film also stars Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan , Arjun Rampal , Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpai.

There has been news of a possible break up between Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor. The cause of the break up could be Neetu Kapoor Singh who believes that Deepika was nothing more than her son’s friend and is not prepared to take Deepika as her ‘bahu’.

There is news of a budding friendship between Deepika and MS Dhoni. And this time the story is believed to be serious. She spoke to Mahi soon after he came back from New Zealand and wished him well for the IPL matches. Though she is from Bangalore, she may well be seen supporting the Chennai Super Kings rather than the Bangalore Royal Challengers in South Africa.

Some time ago Yuvraj Singh claimed to have been dumped by the Deepika because of Yuvi’s falling career after the Australia tour. And Deepika went for Ranbir Kapoor who is known only among followers of Bollywood. She is believed Dhoni has an international appeal. So situations suggests that she now want to carry on the relationship with the Indian stumper and skipper.

Shah Rukh Khan too old for Pepsi Youngistaan

Shah Rukh Khan has been dropped out of Pepsi’s Youngistaan advertisement campaign. The move has come as Pepsi attempts to target the youth and Shah Rukh is considered an old face.

Pepsi’s Youngistaan ad campaign, featured Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, which was a huge sucess. But now the brand is roping in new faces to promote the campaign.

Shah Rukh confirmed that his contract with the company is not being renewed. "I am not a part of the campaign anymore, as of now we are not renewing the contract.”

However, it remains to be seen, who loses more with this move – Shah Rukh or Pepsi?

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in cold war

It is rumored that Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor have picked up a fight and the reason is apparently an angel-faced actress, Katrina Kaif.

According to sources, “Deepika Padukone had got the news from her sources about Ranbir’s growing comfort level with Katrina on and off the sets of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani during the two month shooting schedule in Ooty. Deepika got very insecure when her sources from the sets of the same film told about what was happening between the two in the Goa schedule.”

He further added, “It is learnt that during the Goa shoot both Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif appeared more than comfortable with each other than before even in front of the unit members on the sets. Deepika Padukone went to Goa straightaway after hearing from her source. During her one day trip she met her source and came back to Mumbai.”

Apparently when Ranbir realized what was happening he made a call to Deepika, which ended in an argument. Thereafter Deepika Padukone is apparently not returning any calls from Ranbir Kapoor.

Deepika Padukone spotted Cozing with Ex Beau Nihar Pandya

Deepika Padukone was spotted with her ex boyfriend Nihar Pandya in Bandra. The two had lunch late afternoon. Thing to note here is- Ranbir Kapoor is away shooting at Ooty.

Deepika and Nihar are known to have been in a relationship since the modeling days of Deepika. It is said that after the grand success of Om Shanti Om Deepika became a superstar overnight and moved out of Nihar Pandya’s flat and life.

An eye witness reported “Nihar and Deepika came late in the afternoon after most of the people had left. Even when she comes with Ranbir it is always late in the day as she doesn’t want to be spotted. They were sitting in one corner of the restaurant. They were there for just under two hours. The two of them had a leisurely lunch and seemed quite at ease in each other’s company,”

Deepika and Ranbir Kapoor have often been spotted at this posh restaurant in Bandra. After moving apart from his relationship with Deepika, Nihar is said to have been cozy with Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita. Nihar Pandya has been frequently seen on the sets of Veer.

Sonam refuses to work with Ranbir.

Those who wanted to see the Saawariya couple Ranbir and Sonam together once again are in for a disappointment. Recently, Sonam refused to star opposite Ranbir in a film by the latter’s friend Vicky Singh who is Farhan Akhtar’s former assistant.

We hear that quite a few filmmakers are keen to cast Sonam and Ranbir together. However, Sonam who is hurt after Ranbir broke-up with her and started dating Deepika Padukone, wants nothing to do with him.

A source said, “Sonam belongs to a very classy family and will never openly talk about matters which are close to her heart.”

However a friend of Sonam said, “Sonam is a professional. Frankly speaking, she did not like her role in Vicky’s film too much. After having done an author-backed role in Saawariya, she is in no hurry to sign too many films. She patiently heard Vicky’s script after which she told him that she wouldn’t be doing his film. She is a very clear-headed girl. She is one of those few actresses who do not dillydally for too long and keep a filmmaker waiting endlessly.”

Of course, Vicky is disappointed as this is the second time he has had a problem with his film. In 2006, he had planned to make a film Raaste with Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, John Abraham and Sikander Kher. But, the project has still not gone on the floors.

Although Saawariya may not have got good collections at the box-office, the unanimous decision is that the chemistry between Ranbir and Sonam was sizzling. That was the key reason why Vicky wanted to cast Ranbir and Sonam together. While Ranbir seemed to have no problem working with Sonam once again, Sonam seemed apprehensive about being part of the film.

When contacted to know why Sonam turned down Vicky’s film opposite Ranbir, Sonam’s father, Anil Kapoor said, “It was purely Sonam’s call. I don’t interfere in her work. You may speak to Sonam or her manager Moumita.”

Sonam’s manager Moumita said, “It was Sonam’s decision not to do Vicky’s film.”

“Right now, Sonam is doing Rakeysh Mehra’s Dilli 6. She has many offers and is reading a lot of scripts. Recently, there were rumours that she is doing Shimit Amin's next film (which again might star Ranbir), but let me tell you that we have not even been approached for it. She will soon sign some new projects. Let’s see what she signs next,” added Moumita.

Deepika In deepest love with Ranbir

Saturday night saw an unexpected guest landing in the city. While Ranbir Kapoor and Bipasha Basu were expected to hit town for a Bachna Ae Haseeno promotional bout, their co-passenger was not slated to board the Delhi-Calcutta flight.

But Deepika Padukone could not spend a day without her beau, and just as Saif-Kareena had stormed the city together a few months back, so did Bollywood’s current hottest couple Ranbir-Deepika. He in a casual green T-shirt, she in a gorgeous red gown.

“I didn’t plan to come here…,” confessed Deepika when Metro got in touch with her on Sunday afternoon. That wasn’t too difficult with the Om Shanti Om beauty holed up in her room at the ITC The Sonar, even as Ranbir and Bipasha went to Fame (South City) to talk about their film, which releases this Friday.

Deepika, although a part of the film, was, however, in no mood for work, having already done her promotion bit in Delhi on Saturday evening. “I didn’t have to do anything here… it’s been a relaxing trip,” she smiled. When asked whether it was Ranbir’s company that brought her to Calcutta, Deepika chose to play safe. “I am really fond of Calcutta and I have been to the city many, many times before. So, it’s been good… eating a lot of local food.”

The eating started on Saturday night itself when Ranbir, Deepika and Bipasha hit the Sonar coffee shop Eden Pavilion for a true-blue Bengali dinner. Luchi, kasha mangsho, galda chingri, sandesh, mishti doi… they had little to complain about.

“Oh, we called from Delhi to fix the menu,” laughed Bipasha. The erstwhile Mandeville Gardens girl, in fact, guided Ranbir and Deepika through the Bengali menu, explaining to them the importance of chholar dal with luchi.

But Deepika didn’t share her saawariya’s love for mishti doi. While Raj Kapoor’s grandson confessed “I just love rosogolla and mishti doi”, Prakash Padukone’s daughter didn’t approve of the taste, almost jumping out of her seat when Ranbir spooned a tiny bit into her mouth. Bipasha, on the other hand, gorged on all the mishti on offer.

Sunday lunch was at Peshawari for the Bachna... trio, accompanied by the film’s director Siddharth Raj Anand. It was a welcome meal for Ranbir and Bipasha after all the scuffles and brawls they were witness to at Fame (South City), where the plex audience and journalists all wanted their share of the stars.

Deepika, however, just chilled at the hotel, away from the madding crowd, waiting for her Ranbir to return to her so they could fly back to Mumbai together in the evening.

“I did the film (Bachna...) for many other reasons but yes it’s true that it was during the shooting that I met Ranbir and that is the reason it will always stay special to me,” smiled the lady in love.

Katrina Kaif costars with Ranbir Kapoor in Rajneeti

Katrina Kaif is on a signing spree with Ranbir Kapoor, with three back-to-back movies costarring them in her kitty.

First is Yash Raj’s Bachna Ae Haseeno, then comes Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani for Raj Kumar Santoshi and now, Rajneeti, a gritty political thriller by Prakash Jha.

Rajneeti is the story of a political dynasty. For both Katrina and Ranbir, working with Prakash Jha known for his raw political thrillers, is an experience very different from the kind of cinema they’ve done so far. How did Katrina, with such a glamorous image strike gold with Prakash Jha?

Says Prakash, “I needed an actress who would look convincing as an intelligent modern cultured girl of today. Katrina fitted the bill perfectly. She also looks perfectly matched with Ranbir.

Not too many of the top leading ladies are compatible with Ranbir. Katrina is versatile enough to look perfectly match with Salman-Akshay and Ranbir.

I also like her focused attitude to her career. Now that she has proved herself successful there’s a hunger to prove herself in roles and projects that aren’t considered Katrina’s kingdom.”

Katrina would not be a glamor quotient in the film, she has a meaty role. Not at all, ” asserts Prakash. “She has very powerful dramatic moments in the plot. This role would require Katrina to put all her skills into the active mode.”

The film also stars Manoj Bajpai and Ajay Devgan.

Ranbir In Shekar Kapoor's Next

After lying in the cans for more than 20 years, Time Machine, Shekhar Kapur's prestigious project will finally see the light of day.

Originally starring Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Raveena Tandon in lead roles, the film was shelved after the producers ran into financial trouble.

After several rumours about Time Machine going back on the floors, this time Shekhar Kapur has finally picked up the project and has reportedly approached Ranbir Kapoor for the lead role. Adlabs will produce it.

Our source says, “Shekhar has been keen on making a film in India for a long time now. He is working on Time Machine's script with the original writer of the film.

He has already spoken to Ranbir Kapoor, and they are now working out the logistics.

The film is likely to go on the floors by next year, depending on the availability dates of the artistes involved in the film.”

Shekhar Kapur remained unavailable for comment. Incidentally Harman Baweja's debut film Love Story 2050 is also based on the subject of a time machine.

Ranbir Kapoor-quite a prankster

Ranbir Kapoor is quite a prankster and he didn’t even spare girlfriend Deepika when it came to doing so! During their stay in Sydney for the shoot of Bachna Eh Haseeno Ranbir played various pranks on her and his co-star Hiten Paintal, son of veteran comedian Paintal.

Director Siddharth Anand was no different. He too befriended Ranbir and Hiten and made the women suffer!

However Deepika was not the one to fall prey to her beau’s pranks all the time! She played a trick to ensure that Ranbir too gets a taste of his own medicine!

“All three of us - Deepika, me and Ranbir were traveling in a car in Sydney. Ranbir was sitting in the front, Deepika and I were on the back seat. Deepika found an excellent opportunity to get back at Ranbir. She took a paper, rolled it and started to scratch Ranbir’s ear with it. He was half asleep and gave Deepika a warning that she should stop doing that. She acted as if nothing had happened in the first place! She posed as if she was on the phone! Next, I repeated her act and both of took turns to make break Ranbir’s sleep! Everytime Ranbir looked behind to check on us we’d look outside the window or would break into a deep conversation with each other! After a while Ranbir actually started to believe that he was in his dreams and that it was not happening in reality! In fact he still believes that he was just imaging it”, said an excited Hiten as he tried to control his laughter!

Hiten further added, “All three of us - Me, Ranbir and Deepika had a fantastic time in Sydney, Switzerland and Bangkok where we’ve shot the film. In fact all three of us are flying to Bangkok tomorrow to finish the shoot of the film which will be done by next week. My dad and chintuji (Rishi Kapoor) are good friends and am glad Ranbir and I too get along like a house on fire.”

Ranbir to hit the Dance Floor

Ranbir Kapoor may have not danced a lot in his debut film Saawariya, but the actor will get a chance to show his moves in Yash Chopra’s movie Bachna Ae Haseeno that will hit the screens soon.

And choreographer Ahmed Khan is all praise for the youngster’s dancing abilities. In fact he predicts that Ranbir is going to surprise a lot of people. After Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir seems to be the next actor to join the dance brigade. Well the girls better polish their dance moves. Ranbir’s definitely all set to rock the dance floor.

Stage set as Deepika announces her marriage with Ranbi

It’s official. Bollywood’s "it" couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are engaged to be married.

Deepika, whose debut movie Om Shanti Om turned her into a household name, chatted exclusively to HT City yesterday via telephone from Bangkok, confirming that she and Ranbir are engaged to be married.

She spoke about their marriage plans, squashed rumours of a rift and declared that, in five years, she hoped to be “Mrs Kapoor and the leading lady of Bollywood”. “It was love at first sight. We were introduced by a mutual friend and we liked each other but we needed time for our love to grow before we could make a commitment.”

Deepika confessed that Ranbir proposed to her at the time of their debut releases in November last year. “And I happily said yes.”

The couple met a few months earlier. She said she accepted because she was happy, deeply in love and the couple had the blessings of their parents.

“Our parents are happy with our relationship.” With their parents blessings it looks like history may just be repeating itself. Ranbir’s parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh met in 1975 on a film set and were married five years later.

She laughed off rumours that her schedule had put a strain on their love. The two squeezed in quality time a few days ago when Ranbir flew to Bangkok where she was shooting Chandni Chowk to China. “We read about the rumours of our split and had a gala time laughing.”

She said some of the rumours had been hurtful. “At times it can be really upsetting. As we are open about our relationship, people should give some amount of respect to our relationship by not cooking up rumours,” she said.

The latest gossip is that raunchy pictures of her with actor Upen Patel, aired on television recently, had deeply upset Ranbir. Not so, said Deepika, “Ranbir has already seen my portfolio and that was a shoot for designer Wendell Rodricks two years back when I was modelling. I am not ashamed of it.”

The star said the couple had learned not to allow such talk to affect them: “It’s ridiculous and now it has stopped affecting us also. We will decide how to conduct our relationship and nobody has a right to take us for granted and write any rubbish about us.”

Deepika said while it was tough being away from him, Ranbir had been supportive and loving while she completed back to back movies. “Ranbir understands as he is a part of the fraternity. The gelling force of our relationship is that we understand each other really well.”

She said they worked at staying in touch. “We respect each other’s... (commitments) and fly down to meet whenever we find time.”

The actress has just completed three movies. Her next release will be Yash Raj’s Bachna Ae Haseeno starring the two lovebirds.

“We had a great time in Australia working together for Bachna Ae Haseeno. We spent some quality time together.” They met through mutual friends when Ranbir was shooting Saawariya and Deepika was filming Om Shanti Om.

“It was love at first sight. We were introduced by a mutual friend and we liked each other but we needed time for our love to grow before we could make a commitment.”

She said they still had a ways to go before they tie the knot. “We are on the threshold of our careers and have a long way to go."

But she was not so silent in Dubai. According to reports, she was quite frank and revealing in answering the numerous questions the local Gulf press asked her.

She denied rumours of a break-up with actor Ranbir Kapoor. She said they were still very much an item, and were currently happy with the relationship.

“Yes I have a boyfriend and we are happy,” she supposedly said during a recent visit to Dubai as the brand ambassador of a real estate company. Then why the rumours? “There is always a lot of speculation, but that is something you have to deal with. We are together and I refer to him as my boyfriend.” Deepika is currently working on Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk to China, with Akshay Kumar.
