Sridevi mesmerises at HDIL India Couture Week 2009

The sizzling star of the 90s has been showing all signs of returning to the marquee with her sustained presence at various fashion weeks. Interestingly, on Day One of the HDIL India Couture Week, Sridevi did not walk for her sister-in-law Maheep Kapoor (who was also showing her jewellery line) but chose instead the designer who was showing immediately after her.

The moment she stepped on the ramp, the main show area was filled with cheers as the audience couldn’t stop looking at Bollywood actress Sridevi. She looked stunning in a black gown as she walked the ramp for jewellery designer Queenie Dhody at the inaugural jewellery show of HDIL India Couture Week.

"She is looking so stunning. Just look at her, she is so beautiful," said a mesmerised member of the audience.

As soon as she started walking the ramp, some one from the audience shouted: "Come on Sridevi, you are the best."

It was not just the audience, even Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan, Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle Khanna, Sanjay Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan, Karan Johar and her husband Boney Kapoor clapped relentlessly till she left the ramp.

"She looked like a diva. Just look at her, it seems that she is getting younger day by day. The way she has maintained herself is amazing," Raveena Tandon said after the show.

This is the first time that HDIL-ICW had a high-end jewellery show that featured four jewellery designers - Devaunshi Mehta, Farah Khan, Queenie Dhody and Maheep Kapoor - who came out with their dazzling collections.

Talking about her jewellery line Dhody said that high-end jewellery had become very popular among people.

"People now want to own a piece of jewellery that is exclusive. This exquisite line of hand-made jewellery has both precious and semi-precious stones with fine craftsmanship that makes it very exclusive and everyone should at least own one piece," she said.

Shahrukh Khan plays Mogambo in Mr India 2

While making a re-make of Mr India , director Shekhar Kapoor has approached none other than Shah Rukh Khan for the character of famous villain Mogambo. The role of Mogambo had been played by Amrish Puri in the original Mr India.

Mr India 2 is the sequel of the 1987 hit, Mr India starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. It will feature Anil Kapoor and Sridevi but a younger couple will play the lead.

Mr India 2 is said to be Villain Centric, so it will be a plum role for Shah Rukh Khan. Audiences will also be curious to see how Shah Rukh Khan essays the role. Shah Rukh is not new to negative roles. He had delivered super hits playing negative roles in Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam.

Sequel of Mr India sees Return of Sri Devi

Hawa-hawai girl Srivedi is all set to make a grand comeback in the film industry. The actress will soon be seen in a sequel to the 1987 hit, Mr. India. Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor and his brother Anil Kapoor, who played the lead in Mr. India, will once again team up for this ambitious project. Manmohan Shetty too has joined hands with Boney to make the film. The characters of Seema (played by Sridevi) and Arun (played by Anil Kapoor) in Mr. India will be carried forward in the sequel.

Our source said, “Sridevi will be back with the film and the script is being finalised. The film will be a sequel and not a remake of Mr. India. Anil Kapoor is very excited about the film while Boney is leaving no stone unturned to make the film bigger and better than the first part.

This time, the audience will be in for a visual treat as there will be a whole lot of special effects in the film. Boney is also planning to tie up with a major SFX company. This film is the key reason why Sridevi turned down so many film offers recently. She was waiting for Mr. India's sequel to make her comeback.”

“Mr. India was a superhit film. People still remember all the characters of the film and the very prospect of a sequel is gathering a lot of interest. Sridevi has lost oodles of weight and is looking fabulous these days. She is very excited about her comeback,” added the source.

We contacted Boney Kapoor to give us some more details about the film. “We are making Mr. India 2 and things have been moving forward gradually. But I would like to announce the film only after everything is finalised,” said Boney.

Sridevi in trouble as her Rs.96 mn cheques bounced

Bollywood actress Sridevi faces legal trouble as a Mumbai-based financier Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking her trial after her cheques worth Rs.96.6 million allegedly bounced.

Financer Madhu Gupta, the proprietress of Mumbai-based Photo Films Industries, moved the apex court challenging a Bombay High Court order, which had stalled Sridevi's trial March 26.

In her petition, Gupta told the apex court she has been supplying raw photo films and funding the film production business of Sridevi, her husband Boney Kapoor and father-in-law Surendra Kapoor.

Gupta alleged that Sridevi, to clear her debts incurred in the family's film production business, made out three cheques worth Rs.96.6 million to her in March 2007.But the bank dishonoured all three cheques as Sridevi's bank account did not have sufficient funds , alleged Gupta.

She added that she subsequently moved the Mumbai trial courts at Kurla and Girgaum for recovery of her dues from the film actress in April 2007.

On her complaints, the Mumbai courts even issued summons to Sridevi, but the film actress evaded appearing before the court by seeking repeated adjournments of the hearing on various grounds, alleged the financier.

On the other hand, Sridevi got a criminal case registered against Gupta at the Juhu police station in Mumbai, maintaining that she never issued any cheque to her and the cheques with her purported signature the financier had presented to the court appeared to be forged. Gupta said the Mumbai police after taking up the probe into the case of forgery lodged by Sridevi, approached her and demanded the copies of the cheques from her on the pretext of investigation.

But she, relying upon a Supreme Court ruling, refused to hand over the cheques to them as it would have weakened her own case, said Gupta.

Sridevi then moved the Bombay High Court for quashing the criminal proceedings launched by the Mumbai magisterial courts, said Gupta. The high court, in turn, had stalled the trial court proceedings against the film star, she said.

The female financier sought annulment of the high court's ruling in favour of Sridevi, contending that as per the existing legal provisions and various rulings of the apex court, it should sparingly use its power to annul criminal proceedings against a person.
