Madhur Bhandarkar’s next to bring out Award Show’s Reality

After Jail, Madhur Bhandarkar is ready with yet another subject - The Award functions in Bollywood. The movie titled 'Awards' will be produced by Percept Picture Company which is expected to have a budget of about Rs 40 crores.

The movie is expected to reveal the behind the scenes drama and the inner workings of award functions. It may also bring out aspects of certain award functions that bear allegiance to certain camps and certain actors who manipulate awards.

After director Ashutosh Gowariker's statement against Priyanka Chopra, who may play the lead role at an international award function, Bhandarkar realised there was enough drama in the subject for a full-fledged film.

The movie is also expected to involve incidents from the recent award functions. that might also include Ashutosh's verbal argument with host Sajid Khan.

The pre-production work will only start after the release of Jail in October. If everything goes well, the movie will go on floors in November.

Freida Pinto to work with Madhur Bhandarkar

Freida PintoFor all those vying to catch international sensation Freida Pinto in a typical Bollywood potboiler there is some good news. The stunner, who is globetrotting with a series a hip projects safely tucked away in her kitty, has finally given a green signal to Bollywood.

But there is a hitch, the one film sensation, Pinto is willing to work in Bollywood only if hit churner Madhur Bhandarkar is willing to direct her film. The smothering dame, who is presently busy with ‘Miral’ directed by American Julian Schnabel and will soon be seen in Woody Allen’s film, has made quiet a condition.

It all started when Freida in an interview to the international press said that she would do a Bollywood film only if it was a Bhandarkar film.

When the news reached Madhur he was naturally flattered. To work with Pinto, the current international sensation, would be any Bollywood director's dream scheme.

Says Madhur, "I'm quite flattered to hear Freida wants to work with me. I think she is aware of my female-oriented cinema. She must have seen the performances that Tabu and Konkona Sen gave in Chandni Bar and Page 3. I'd love to work with Freida."

Considering Bhandarkar has time and again only cast tried and tested actresses, Freida sure expects the taskmaster to go out of his way.

Well Freida sure seems to have given Bhandarkar a reason to smile.

Fashion makes Madhur Bhandarkar thrilled

With the success of his latest movie Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar paid a thanksgiving visit to Vaishnodevi shrine in Kashmir.

“I am here to thank the Goddess after the success of Fashion. It is the biggest hit of my career. It is a great moment for me,” said Bhandarkar.

Bhandarkar’s latest offing was a follow up of his trademark movies based on real issues and people. His earlier films like Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal, Satta etc were also based on realisitic issues. Fashion stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse.

The director said he was slightly apprehensive as the subject of the film was totally different and the film did not have any lead actor in it. “It was a great risk for me to make a film on the background of fashion but I am happy that the public has accepted my film,” Bhandarkar said.

The film’s theme is based on the story of a small town girl’s experience in the dazzling world of fashion through the story of Meghna Mathur, a role played with élan by Priyanka Chopra.

The movie ran into controversy after Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) objected that Kangana Ranaut’s character in the film had a striking resemblance to Delhi’s former model Geetanjai Nagpal.

The movie has been passed with an ‘A’ certificate.

Priyanka-Kangana Onscreen Cemistry not so cool Of Screen

Onscreen Friendship especially between actresses survive only till one of them starts getting more attention, fame and money than her 'best friend'. one can look back at the past to remember the fact. Think Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta, Esha Deol and Kareena Kapoor. The latest dosti, which has gone kaput is that of Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.

Ironically, the bone of contention between the two actresses is their latest film Fashion, which was in the first place responsible for bringing them together. Gradually, the two had become good friends while shooting for the film. Priyanka even shared make up and fashion tips with Kangana.

But cracks started to be seen soon. Priyanka did not enjoy the reviews, which were tilted in favour of Kangana, the latter too wasn't happy with Priyanka getting favourable reviews from critics for her performance in the same film. Both the actresses have also been claiming that they were the showstopper in all the ramp walks in the film.

While both the actresses have been busy bickering, it is Fashion director Madhur Bhandarkar who has suffered the most. An upset Kangana boycotted the media interviews, which Madhur had arranged for at his office just before the film released.

Even after the film released, Kangana did not travel with Madhur to Bangalore to promote the film and she did not even attend the publicity campaign, which was held at a suburban mall in Mumbai. It was Priyanka who attended all the post-publicity campaigns with Mugdha Godse, the third heroine in Fashion.

Only time will tell if the Priyanka-Kangana dosti is over.

Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion is a peek into the Real Fashion World

After exploring the corporate world, bar girls and page 3 circuit, Madhur Bhandarkar is exploring the Fashion world through his latest flick, Fashion. He categorically denies that he is demeaning or exposing any person through his movie but says that he offers a peek into the fashion world to the common man.

Fashion follows the journey of Meghna Mathur played by Priyanka Chopra from Chandigarh to the fashion world in Mumbai and all the trials and travails that she is exposed to.

“I’ve always made different kind of films, a whole genre of cinema. When I made Corporate and Page 3, that time I felt that I should make a movie on the world of fashion, because it’s a high society,” says Madhur Bhandarkar.

“There is an intriguing point of making this film because I felt that people and media have given it a lot of hype and the kind of hype given to the fashion world, the fashion shows. Everyday you have big celebrities sitting in the first row and the common man would definitely like to have the perspective - a peak inside the fashion world to know what it’s all about,” he adds.

Fashion is slated to release on the October 29 right after two fashion weeks in Mumbai and Delhi.
