
It is only the second instance in the 58 years of the pageant that a country had retained the title after Johanna Raunio and Anne Marie Pohtamo of Finland did it in 1954 and 1955. The 18 year old Fernandez who is of Russian, Ukrainian, Galician and Polish origin bested young women from 83 countries. Miss Australia Rachael Finch and Miss Puerto Rico Mayra Matos Perez shared the first runners up title and the second runner-up title went to Miss Kosovo Gona Dragusha.
Stefania was on top of the world after she was honoured by the $120,000 crown. She also received a tiara designed by Diamond Nexus Labs; a two-year scholarship from the New York Film Academy worth more than $100,000; an evening wear wardrobe from Carlos Alberto; a shoe collection from Nina Footwear; a six-day/five-night vacation for two at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas, access to an event wardrobe from leading fashion designers, a New York City apartment for the year of her reign including living expenses among other gifts.
Stefania won cheers of the audience in both the Swimsuit and Evening Gown categories as part of the selection of the top 15 finalists who were from Albania, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Iceland, Kosovo, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, the US and Venezuela.
